Yamaka Bhagwatam of Kaviratna Purusottama Misra

The Yamaka-bhagavata (YB) is a fine specimen of figurative Poetry. It contains eight cantos with 501 verses adorned with yamaka-alamkara. Kaviratna Puruşottama Misra (17th C.A.D.) of Odisha, the poet genius has composed the Kavya depicting the Lila of Srikrsna basing on the tenth Skandha of Srimad Bhagavata. It is a Kävya which reflects the socio-religio cultural condition.
The first part of the first section of the present book consists of the method of textual criticism. The second part comprises the higher criticism of literary appraisal about the poet, genesis of the yamaka kS vyas, mythological and legendary allusions, plot, sentiment, characters and other Poetic elements.
Critically edited text along with the commentary of Raghunatha Misra is the second section of the book. The commentator’s erudition is instrumental for the comprehension of the Kavya. The YB is a unique contribution of an exalted genius. The appreciation of the literary world will be an unforgettable reference to an immortal poet.
