Isopanisad – The Gateway to Holistic Philosophy

PREFACE

During my term of Visiting Professorship at Sanskrit Studies Centre, Silpakorn University, Bangkok, I got the opportunity to teach Upanişads. I selected isopanişad to start with. Iśōpanişad has always fascinated me and taught this small text to the M.A. students, I was once again enamoured by the lucidity and transparency of its metaphysical perceptions.

This small volume is based on the notes I prepared for the students. I hope it will initiate students and common readership to the study of Upanişads.

I am grateful to all my colleagues at Sanskrit Studies Centre of Silpakorn University Dr. Chirapat – Prapandavidya, Dr. Samniang Limsai, Dr. Bumroong and Dr. Sombat for their constant help and for providing me with all the facilities at the library of the Centre. Thanks are also due to Dr. Radhey Shyam Shukla of Pratibha Prakashan for publishing this study so promptly.

I dedicate this small volume to the youth all over the world for whom the message of this discourse could be a torch-bearer in life.
