About the Book
The book Apurvajyotih a Felicitation Volume in honor of Professor Apurba Chandra Barthakuria, a renowned Sanskrit scholar of Assam and the country is an anthology of research papers on different branches of Indology. Prof. Barthakuria served the department of Sanskrit Gauhati University for 35 years (1962-1997) and a few years on extension service. He has to his credit fourteen distinct books, all on different areas of Sanskrit Literature. Besides, being an educationist he is a great Sanskrit scholar of modern times. Many scholars have obtained Ph. D. degrees under his able guidance. He is admired by many people for multifaceted talent.
The book is divided into two parts. The first part is a collection of some prasastis, an article on the life-sketch of Prof. A.C. Barthakuria, a bio-bibliography, and certain appreciative writings on some of his important books. The second part contains twenty-eight research papers on different branches of Sanskrit literature such as Vedic Studies, Dharmasastras, Epics and Puranas, Sanskrit Literature, Grammar and Linguistics, and Philosophy.
Our endeavor will be successful only when the scholars of Indology will find in this Volume their quest for knowledge.
About the Author
Dr. Nalini Devi Misra, the editor of the Felicitation Volume, entitled Apurvajyotih is a Professor in the Department of Sanskrit, Gauhati University, Assam. She is specialized in Vedas and ancillary texts. She has contributed her papers in both Vedas and other areas of Vedic literature. She has to her credit two books viz., Pitamahapautrayoh Laghukathasarh-grahah, (a translated work from Assamese to Sanskrit, published by Sahitya Academi, New Delhi) and Vaidik Akhyanar Rahghara in Assamese. Besides, more than 25 (twenty-five) Research articles are published in National Journals and one in International Journal. She has also edited two Volumes of Surabharati, the Annual Research Journal of the Department of Sanskrit, Gauhati University, Assam.
